Smith, Winfred W.

Ludlow native and former mayor, councilman, city clerk and police clerk of Ludlow. Smith served two two-year terms on city council. From 1946-1961, he served as Ludlow city clerk. He was elected mayor of Ludlow in November 1961. He served the city as mayor for less than a year. Smith was admitted to Booth Hospital on April 16, 1962 following a heart attack. He died on April 23, 1962 at the age of 51.

Smith was a senior field construction clerk with Cincinnati Gas and Electric. For many years he worked at the Walter C. Beckjord Station at New Richmond, Ohio. Smith was a member of the Unity Lodge No. 478 F & AM. He and his wife, Virginia, lived at 248 Forest Avenue.
He had two children: Ricky Smith and Sue Carol Smith, both of Ludlow. He was also survived by two sisters: Evelyn Alig and Ruth Skirvin. Services were held at Catherman and Jones Funeral Home with burial at Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Ludlow's city building annex (231 Elm) was dedicated in Smith's memory on June 29, 1964. A plaque was placed on the building in his honor.
