Kenton County Historical Data:

Kenton County was established 29 January 1840. Carved from Campbell County, it was the 90th county created in Kentucky. Covington (one of the county seats) was established on 8 February 1815. Kentucky state law once dictated that the county seat be established near the geographical center of the county which is Independence. Independence still maintains a courthouse and functions as a second county seat. Some of the cities of Kenton County (in order of establishment) are:

Kenton County covers 165 square miles. The highest elevation is 960 feet above sea level. The lowest is 455 feet above sea level. It is east of Boone County, west of Campbell County and north of Grant and Pendleton counties. Independence (near the geographical center of the county) is 38N 56' 3" latitude and 84W 32' 39" longitude. Highest normal average daily temperature is 85.8F (July). The lowest average daily temperatue is 20.4F (January). The highest recorded temperature is 103F. The lowest is -25F. Average snowfall is 23.6". Average rainfall is 40.14". Average number of clear days is 82. Average number of cloudy days is 185.
